Asbury Park Middle School Administration

 

The staff joins me in welcoming you to the 2016-2017 school year. At Dr. Martin Luther

King, Jr. Middle School we are committed to providing a physically and emotionally safe

atmosphere, in which students can learn and are challenged. Our environment promotes

respect for the diversity of our student body, and caring about each and every one of our

students. Our programs are designed to promote the maximum growth and achievement

for each child through our PBSIS program.

Dr. MLK, Jr. Middle School is a standards based, high expectations, inquiry based, and

community oriented learning environment. Our mission as a school community is to

provide a quality education in a positive environment preparing students to be

knowledgeable, responsible, caring, and confident citizens in an ever changing world

consistent with district mission of “Building A Brighter Future”. As we focus on all students

receive a preeminent education we are constantly challenged to design high quality

instruction based on standards and benchmarks, to engage students in critical thinking and

inquiry based activities, and apply knowledge to real life situations.

These as well as many other factors have set precedence for achievement and have set a

culture of academia at Dr. MLK Jr. Middle School. Our motto "Each Dream Requires Work"

exemplifies our school culture. We strive to continue to build the teachers, parents,

students and community members work together to provide meaningful academic

experiences for all students. Through our partnerships and a culture of collaboration,

teamwork, and communication will flourish. Our diverse student population benefits from

the enriched academic experiences fostered through a collaborative spirit.

Our challenge as a community of stakeholders is to continue to build on our achievements.

We can be proud of what we have achieved at Dr. MLK Jr. Middle School but our

achievements are not due to complacency and satisfaction with the status quo. Our

programs are built on a strong community connection, continuous collaboration, and

dedicated teacher professionals. We will continue to work hard to meet the Asbury Park

School District’s goals by focusing on higher achievement for all with an emphasis on

closing the achievement gaps and improving instruction and preparing our students to be

college and or career ready.

It is with great excitement and enthusiasm for the upcoming school year and its honor

and a privilege to continue serving the Asbury Park community.
