Schools throughout the Asbury Park School District have been undergoing a period of intense activity this summer. Thanks in part to funding from the American Rescue Plan (ARP) and Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER), upgrades are taking place at all of the district’s schools. Recently we featured the upgrades taking place at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School. This week, we examine the work being done at Bradley and Thurgood Elementary and Asbury Park High School.
At Bradley, classrooms are getting new HVAC units, which in addition to providing air conditioning, will offer better intake and exhaust options to meet existing air requirements. The school also is getting a replacement rooftop HVAC unit.
At Thurgood Marshall, the district is replacing six rooftop units that will handle fresh air, heating and air conditioning to the multipurpose room and gym. It also will cover the building “center area” and media center. Additionally, the building’s sound system and multipurpose room will receive wall pad replacements.
At Asbury Park High School, the school will receive new rooftop units that will provide air conditioning to the school’s academy wing, which houses the Dream, Engineering, Allied Health Academy and Cosmetology Academies, the small gym as well as the boys’ and girls’ locker rooms. The Media Center also will get a makeover.
Lastly, all district buildings will receive an upgrade to the wireless system. This includes new switches and access points that include the integration of new equipment to establish a Building Management System. These upgrades will allow district students and staff to stay connected on their devices.
All of these upgrades have emerged as a vital means for the district to enhance its learning environments, upgrade facilities, and accommodate its diverse student populations for the 2023-2024 school year.
